1有一個利未家的人，娶了一個利未女子為妻。
【niv】Now a man of the house of Levi married a Levite woman,
2那女人懷孕，生一個兒子，見他俊美，就藏了他三個月。
【niv】and she became pregnant and gave birth to a son. When she saw that he was a fine child, she hid him for three months.
3後來不能再藏，就取了一個蒲草箱，抹上石漆和石油，將孩子放在里頭，把箱子擱在河邊的4蘆荻中。
【niv】But when she could hide him no longer, she got a papyrus basket for him and coated it with tar and pitch. Then she placed the child in it and put it among the reeds along the bank of the Nile.
4孩子的姐姐遠遠站著，要知道他究竟怎么樣。
【niv】His sister stood at a distance to see what would happen to him.
5法老的女兒來到河邊洗澡，她的使女們在河邊行走。她看見箱子在蘆荻中，就打發一個婢女拿來。
【niv】Then Pharaoh's daughter went down to the Nile to bathe, and her attendants were walking along the river bank. She saw the basket among the reeds and sent her slave girl to get it.
6她打開箱子，看見那孩子。孩子哭了，她就可憐他，說:“這是希伯來人的一個孩子。”
【niv】She opened it and saw the baby. He was crying, and she felt sorry for him. 'This is one of the Hebrew babies,' she said.
7孩子的姐姐對法老的女兒說:“我去在希伯來婦人中叫一個奶媽來，為你奶這孩子，可以不可以?”
【niv】Then his sister asked Pharaoh's daughter, 'Shall I go and get one of the Hebrew women to nurse the baby for you?'
8法老的女兒說:“可以。”童女就去叫了孩子的母親來。
【niv】'Yes, go,' she answered. And the girl went and got the baby's mother.
9法老的女兒對她說:“你把這孩子抱去，為我奶他，我必給你工價。”婦人就抱了孩子去奶他。
【niv】Pharaoh's daughter said to her, 'Take this baby and nurse him for me, and I will pay you.' So the woman took the baby and nursed him.
10孩子漸長，婦人把他帶到法老的女兒那里，就作了她的兒子。她給孩子起名叫摩西，意思說:“因我把他從水里拉出來。”
【niv】When the child grew older, she took him to Pharaoh's daughter and he became her son. She named him Moses, saying, 'I drew him out of the water.'
11後來摩西長大，他出去到他8弟兄那里，看他們的重擔，見一個埃及人打希伯來人的一個弟兄；
【niv】One day, after Moses had grown up, he went out to where his own people were and watched them at their hard labor. He saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, one of his own people.
12他左右觀看，見沒有人，就把埃及人打死了，藏在沙土里。
【niv】Glancing this way and that and seeing no one, he killed the Egyptian and hid him in the sand.
13第二天他出去，見有兩個希伯來人爭斗，就對那欺負人的說:“你為什么打你同族的人呢?”
【niv】The next day he went out and saw two Hebrews fighting. He asked the one in the wrong, 'Why are you hitting your fellow Hebrew?'
14那人說:“誰立你作我們的首領和審判官呢?難道你要殺我，象殺那埃及人嗎?”摩西便懼怕，說:“這事必是被人知道了!”
【niv】The man said, 'Who made you ruler and judge over us? Are you thinking of killing me as you killed the Egyptian?' Then Moses was afraid and thought, 'What I did must have become known.'
15法老聽見這事，就想殺摩西；但摩西躲避法老，逃往米甸地居住。
【niv】When Pharaoh heard of this, he tried to kill Moses, but Moses fled from Pharaoh and went to live in Midian, where he sat down by a well.
