1过了一年，到列王出战的时候，大卫又差派约押，率领臣仆和以色列众人出战。他们就打败亚扪人，围攻拉巴。大卫仍住在耶路撒冷。
【niv】In the spring, at the time when kings go off to war, David sent Joab out with the king's men and the whole Israelite army. They destroyed the Ammonites and besieged Rabbah. But David remained in Jerusalem.
2一日太阳平西，大卫从床上起来，在王宫的平顶上游行，看见一个妇人沐浴，容貌甚美。
【niv】One evening David got up from his bed and walked around on the roof of the palace. From the roof he saw a woman bathing. The woman was very beautiful,
3大卫就差人打听那妇人是谁。有人说:“她是以连的女儿，赫人乌利亚的妻拔示巴。”
【niv】and David sent someone to find out about her. The man said, 'Isn't this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam and the wife of Uriah the Hittite?'
4大卫差人去，将妇人接来，那时她的月经才得洁净。她来了，大卫与她同房，她就回家去了。
【niv】Then David sent messengers to get her. She came to him, and he slept with her. (She had purified herself from her uncleanness.) Then she went back home.
5于是她怀了孕，打发人去告诉大卫说:“我怀了孕。”
【niv】The woman conceived and sent word to David, saying, 'I am pregnant.'
6大卫差人到约押那里，说:“你打发赫人乌利亚到我这里来。”约押就打发乌利亚去见大卫。
【niv】So David sent this word to Joab: 'Send me Uriah the Hittite.' And Joab sent him to David.
7乌利亚来了，大卫问约押好，也问兵好，又问争战的事怎样。
【niv】When Uriah came to him, David asked him how Joab was, how the soldiers were and how the war was going.
8大卫对乌利亚说:“你回家去，洗洗脚吧!”乌利亚出了王宫，随后王送他一份食物。
【niv】Then David said to Uriah, 'Go down to your house and wash your feet.' So Uriah left the palace, and a gift from the king was sent after him.
9乌利亚却和他主人的仆人一同睡在宫门外，没有回家去。
【niv】But Uriah slept at the entrance to the palace with all his master's servants and did not go down to his house.
10有人告诉大卫说:“乌利亚没有回家去。”大卫就问乌利亚说:“你从远路上来，为什么不回家去呢?”
【niv】When David was told, 'Uriah did not go home,' he asked him, 'Haven't you just come from a distance? Why didn't you go home?'
11乌利亚对大卫说:“约柜和以色列，与犹大兵，都住在棚里；我主约押和我主(或作“王”)的仆人，都在田野安营，我岂可回家吃喝，与妻子同寝呢?我敢在王面前起誓(原文作“我指着王和王的性命起誓”):我决不行这事。”
【niv】Uriah said to David, 'The ark and Israel and Judah are staying in tents, and my master Joab and my lord's men are camped in the open fields. How could I go to my house to eat and drink and lie with my wife? As surely as you live, I will not do such a thing!'
12大卫吩咐乌利亚说:“你今日仍住在这里，明日我打发你去。”于是乌利亚那日和次日住在耶路撒冷。
【niv】Then David said to him, 'Stay here one more day, and tomorrow I will send you back.' So Uriah remained in Jerusalem that day and the next.
13大卫召了乌利亚来，叫他在自己面前吃喝，使他喝醉。到了晚上，乌利亚出去与他主的仆人一同住宿，还没有回到家里去。
【niv】At David's invitation, he ate and drank with him, and David made him drunk. But in the evening Uriah went out to sleep on his mat among his master's servants; he did not go home.
谋杀乌利亚
14次日早晨，大卫写信与约押，交乌利亚随手带去。
【niv】In the morning David wrote a letter to Joab and sent it with Uriah.
15信内写着说:“要派乌利亚前进，到阵势极险之处，你们便退后，使他被12杀。”
【niv】In it he wrote, 'Put Uriah in the front line where the fighting is fiercest. Then withdraw from him so he will be struck down and die.'
16约押围城的时候，知道敌人那里有勇士，便将乌利亚派在那里。
【niv】So while Joab had the city under siege, he put Uriah at a place where he knew the strongest defenders were.
17城里的人出来，和约押打仗。大卫的仆人中有几个被杀的，赫人乌利亚也死了。
【niv】When the men of the city came out and fought against Joab, some of the men in David's army fell; moreover, Uriah the Hittite died.
